A Story of Faith, Family and Extreme Trauma

An unfamiliar road, a tight curve, and an oncoming car turned a leisurely drive in an old sports car into a harrowing story of survival. That afternoon, a violent collision turned the car into a twisted hunk of metal and glass fragments, upended lives and ushered in a journey neither of them could have foreseen.

It was a crisp fall day on November 10, 2017 when David Moody and his son, Joshua, both very busy guys, decided to carve out a couple of hours to drive through a local park together. Within an hour, they were being transported to emergency medical care and a fog of uncertainty that would come to define the circumstances of both men as well as David’s steadfast, fiercely loyal wife, Gwen.

Over the coming months, marked by observances from Veteran’s Day through Mother’s Day and Holy Pentecost, David recounts a transformative journey—learning to resist his natural urge to analyze the situation and fix the problem and instead, rely on faith and boldly envisioning a miracle.

The Rewiring Project

“What a gripping story of trauma and faith! I can truly say that sometimes we forget about the importance of faith in healing on a day-to-day basis in the hospital. As a medical professional in the trauma field, people pass through our hands during some of the most challenging times in their lives. We treat them and they move on. We seldom know the ultimate outcome, or the impact, that our intervention had on the survivors or their families. By reading this story, I am reminded of the power of God’s will and the beauty of our ephemeral lives which should always be cherished.  I am so blessed to have helped “Miracle Josh” on this journey.

“It is only upon the reading of David Moody’s retelling of a near fatal car accident that almost ended his son’s earthly life that one understands the title. Joshua was “rewired” and with him the author, his family, and a very close group of friends and new friends who journeyed together. They endured an experience everyone prays never happens to them or ones they love. There are other possible titles Mr. Moody could have used to describe the depth of faith, the power of prayer, the resilience of love, or the journey of those who accompanied the Moody family through a gripping and intensely emotional experience. David Moody keeps the reader wondering throughout if the “rewiring” would end in success. Not for any gratuitous effect, but rather as the story actually unfolded. For those who know the Moody family, their experience of the car accident and the resulting rewiring process was miraculous, but not surprising. It is a story of unyielding faith and the refusal to surrender to the odds of survival It was also a young man’s rewiring as so many good friends who were a part of a story while ever so patiently waiting for a happy ending that was never guaranteed. By book’s end we are reassured that in the world of God and faith, hope springs eternal, something we should never forget.
